EU is shocked: Borrell reacts to Russian army's atrocities in Izyum
The High Representative of the EU for foreign and security policy condemned the atrocities committed by Russia in Izyum in the Kharkiv region and supports the prosecution of Russia's the political leadership
This is stated in the statement of Josep Borrell.
"The European Union is deeply shocked by the mass graves discovered by the Ukrainian authorities, with more than 440 bodies in Izyum, which is a city recently liberated from the invading Russian forces. We condemn these atrocities in the strongest possible terms," said the Vice President of the European Commission.
"Russia's war of aggression leaves a bloody and destructive mark in Ukraine. Thousands of civilians have already been killed, many others have been subjected to torture, persecution, sexual violence, abduction or forced displacement. This inhumane behavior of Russian troops, full of disregard for international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, must be stopped immediately," Borrell urged.
"Russia, its political leadership and all those involved in many violations of international law and international humanitarian law in Ukraine will be brought to justice. The EU supports all efforts in this matter," the head of European diplomacy summarized.
