EU greenlights €150 billion defense loan plan, Hungary reportedly abstains

At its May 27 meeting, the EU General Affairs Council approved the SAFE instrument, which allows the EU to loan up to €150 billion to invest in the defense industry

European Pravda reported the information.

“The SAFE mechanism was approved by broad consensus. No one voted against it, but one country abstained,” said a representative of the Polish presidency.

He did not name the country that didn’t support the plan.

However, a diplomat from another EU member state told the outlet, speaking anonymously, that Hungary was the one that abstained.
