"Today, the European Parliament adopted the Russiagate resolution on Russia's interference in EU democratic processes. This resolution is disappointing because some names have disappeared from the final text of the resolution. Of course, the European Parliament is concerned about Russia's ongoing efforts to interfere in the political life of the EU in order to undermine European democracy through direct interference and disinformation. Russia is also supporting far-right movements across the EU with the aim of reducing support for Ukraine, the resolution says. Two MEPs with links to Russia are named in the resolution: Spanish MEP Carles Puigdemont and Latvian MEP Tatjana Ždanoka. She was accused of working under the direction of FSB supervisors since 2004. Currently, these MEPs are being investigated for their ties to Russia," Vysotska said.
According to the Espreso correspondent, as for other facts of MEPs' ties to Russia, the resolution only diplomatically states that it points to other cases of MEPs' deliberate service to Russia's interests. It also calls on the European Parliament to conduct an internal investigation to identify and stop this practice.
"The resolution also refers to Russia's funding of political parties in the EU, and mentions several countries - Germany, France and Slovakia - but not a single word about Hungary," Vysotska said.
