EU to sign security agreement with Ukraine next week - media
The EU and Ukraine have agreed on the text of the security agreement and it is expected to be signed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy on June 26
Deutsche Welle reports, citing a senior EU official.
The security agreement between the European Union and Ukraine will be signed in the coming days, a senior EU official said at a briefing in Brussels on Friday, June 21.
He noted that it took several months to finalize the text of the agreement.
According to the official, the document is expected to be signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on June 26. The agreement covers not only military assistance to Kyiv, but also financial support, European integration, and other areas of cooperation.
It is also expected that on June 24, the EU will officially approve the 14th package of sanctions against Russia for its aggression in Ukraine, which is being discussed by EU foreign ministers at the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg. They will talk to their Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba.
"Providing Ukraine with arms is our top priority," the senior official said, adding that this topic will be top of the agenda at the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
Another item on the agenda is the situation in Georgia.
"The essence of the discussion is that Georgia wanted to become an EU member, but we see that it has approved a law that contradicts our legislation and our values as a candidate country," the official said.
No decisions are expected to be made at the council, but the discussion of this issue will continue at the EU summit on June 27 and 28.
