This was stated by the European Commission Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Peter Stano.
According to him, the EU condemns Russia's decision. He called such actions unreasonable and politically motivated.
"This decision further restricts the already tightly controlled and restricted and censored access of the Russian population to independent and free information," Stano said.
He added that the European media were intended to disseminate independent information to the Russian population, including information about Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine.
- On May 17, the EU imposed sanctions on four Russian propaganda outlets: Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, Izvestia, and Rossiyskaya Gazeta, banning them from broadcasting and publishing in the EU.
- On June 25, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that access to the websites of 81 EU media outlets in the country was restricted after the bloc decided to block some Russian media.
