EU Council approves sanctions against Iran for supplying drones that hit Ukraine
The assets of 3 individuals and 1 organization responsible for the supply of UAVs were frozen
The Czech Presidency of the Council announced on Twitter.
"Sanctions against Iran in record time! After three days of talks, the EU ambassadors agreed on measures against the entities supplying Iranian drones that hit Ukraine," the message reads.
It is known that the EU ambassadors' negotiations lasted for three days. The written procedure has now been over, so the sanctions will come into effect this afternoon on publication in the Official Journal.
It is noted that the EU states decided to freeze the assets of 3 individuals and 1 entity responsible for drone deliveries, and also prepared to extend sanctions to 4 more Iranian entities that already featured in a previous sanctions list.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, commented on such an operational decision of the European Union.
"I welcome the EU’s prompt action following my appeal on Monday to impose sanctions on Iran for helping Russia kill Ukrainians and damage our energy infrastructure. In three days, the EU agreed on a set of restrictions which will take effect as soon as today," he writes.
