Breton said this during a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak, Ukrinform reports.
He emphasized that it goes about ammunition of 155 mm, 120 mm and other calibres.
"First of all, we have to tell all EU countries that it is time to give Ukraine the ammunition they currently have in their warehouses. We are talking about 155 mm calibre, but also 120 mm and other calibres. Member states have accumulated ammunition, and we urge them to provide this ammunition as soon as possible, it is very important to do so immediately," the official said.
Breton also noted that EU countries should increase their ammunition production capacity and ensure that they have enough qualified personnel to do so.
"We are determined to increase in the long term our production capacity in Europe so that our defense industry produces on a scale that is appropriate to the current geopolitical situation," Breton said.
The press conference was held at the Dezamet S.A. plant in Nowa Dęba, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland, where ammunition for Ukraine will be produced. The European Commissioner said that the company operates in three shifts five days a week, but can switch to weekend work.
"We need to increase our production, we have the potential to do so, 11 member states have such plants that can participate in this program," he said.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said that thanks to cooperation with the European Commission, the country will be able to increase the production of ammunition.
