Turkish President Recep Erdoğan realistically assesses Ukraine’s prospects for aid, as in today’s world no one can guarantee constant financial and military support

Foreign policy expert and PhD candidate in political science, Bohdan Ferens, shared his opinions on Espreso TV.

“I think Erdoğan is trying to open our eyes, or those who still don’t understand what can happen with aid to Ukraine. I partially agree. You don’t have to look far — just consider what has happened over the past year regarding changes, positioning, support, and the volume of aid to Ukraine after Donald Trump became U.S. president. How can anyone guarantee long-term support in today’s world? Anyone who claims they can should naturally be questioned. On the other hand, Ukraine has no option but to work to ensure its partners support the country as long and as much as possible while the Russian-Ukrainian war continues,” Ferens said.

The expert emphasized that Ukraine should realistically assess the prospects of partner support. Even under President Biden, military aid deliveries were often delayed and did not arrive in the promised volumes.

“Still, we need to soberly assess that Trump’s posts won’t produce miracles. Even in this context, words sometimes diverge from actions. Moreover, Erdoğan wasn’t speaking only about Trump. These questions also relate to the speed of weapons deliveries under the Biden administration, when Zelenskyy publicly stated that Ukraine had received only 10% of what was promised. Of course, dynamics later changed, but it is always necessary to assess the situation realistically,” he concluded.

  • On Thursday, September 25, U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with Turkish President Recep Erdoğan at the White House.
