Erdogan calls Putin: urges to cease fire in Ukraine and start negotiations

On January 5, Turkish President Recep Erdogan called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and urged him to cease fire in Ukraine and start negotiations

This is reported by the office of the Turkish president.

According to the report, the two leaders discussed Turkish-Russian relations, especially energy relations, as well as the war in Ukraine and the situation in Syria.

Erdogan recalled the successes already achieved, in particular the opening of the "grain corridor", the exchange of prisoners and the initiative for a safe zone around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

"Erdogan said that calls for peace and negotiations should be backed by a unilateral ceasefire and a vision of a just solution," the office of the Turkish president wrote.

It is worth noting that Erdogan has repeatedly offered himself as a mediator in resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Energoatom doubts that the IAEA will be able to take control of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, the idea of creating a safe zone seems unrealistic to the company's CEO Kotin.
