This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense.
It is noted that the commander of the 247th Guards Air Assault Landing Regiment Colonel Vasily Popov was probably killed in the Orikhiv sector.
A few weeks before, in August 2023, his predecessor, Colonel Petr Popov, probably resigned. According to intelligence, he acted in protest against the military's failure to find the bodies of the Russian troops. In addition, in the first weeks of the full-scale Russian invasion, Colonel Konstantin Zizevsky, then commander of the 247th Regiment, was killed near Mykolaiv.
“The experience of the 247th highlights the extreme attrition and high turnover in Russia’s deployed military, even amongst relatively senior ranks,” the UK’s MoD concludes.
- According to ISW, the losses of the Russian occupiers have increased significantly in the west of Zaporizhzhia region amid the Ukrainian army's counteroffensive.
- The head of the Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, said that losses among the Ukrainian Armed Forces are less than those of the Russian army, even though the Ukrainian military is on the offensive.
