Holding elections in Ukraine right after a ceasefire is “not grounded in reality.” A key factor is ensuring democratic and transparent elections

MP Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze from the European Solidarity faction stated this on Radio Svoboda.
“Talks about a ceasefire followed by immediate elections seem completely out of touch with reality. We all know that for this to happen, there needs to be a draft law in parliament, ready for consideration, to regulate these post-war elections,” Klympush-Tsyntsadze said.
She also stressed that democracy and transparency are crucial so that elections meet international standards.
According to the MP, Ukraine’s European partners understand the security risks. In closed discussions — such as those at the Munich Security Conference — they have made their position clear: elections can only take place after real peace is achieved.
- On Tuesday, February 18, U.S. President Donald Trump held a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, where he discussed negotiations with Russia in Saudi Arabia. He specifically emphasized the need for elections in Ukraine.
