Duda should use Trump ties to counter Russia, help Ukraine — Polish FM
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said he is disappointed with President Andrzej Duda, as he had hoped Duda would use his friendship with U.S. leader Donald Trump to pressure Russia
This was reported by Polsat News.
"I had hoped that President Duda would use his friendship with President Trump and push him to put pressure on Russia, but it seems that such a conversation, unfortunately, never happened. I conveyed such proposals both privately and publicly," Sikorski said, adding that he is disappointed with the Polish leader's approach.
The Foreign Minister also stressed that he wanted the "good relations" between Duda and Trump to benefit Poland geopolitically and serve its interests, but "when it comes down to it, we don't see President Duda's influence on President Trump."
"Now is almost the last moment to put this friendship on the line for the sake of peace, for Ukraine, for deterring Putin. This is what the president should do, not speak at party congresses," Sikorski said.
- Earlier, Duda said he believes that any possible peace deal between Ukraine and Russia will require compromise and that Kyiv will have to make concessions.
- After that, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski urged Duda not to act like former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, who once pursued a policy of appeasement with the Nazis.
