Duda on Trump-Zelenskyy Vatican meeting: "I hope special spirit will inspire new decisions"

Polish President Andrzej Duda, commenting on the meeting between the leaders of the United States and Ukraine at the Vatican, said that he hopes the "special spirit" will inspire new ideas for ending the war in Ukraine

He said this in an interview with Polsat News.

"I hope that the special spirit there can inspire new decisions and ideas that will help end this war," the Polish president said.

At the same time, he stressed that for him, the interests of Poland and the Polish people come first.

"It is in the interests of Poland and the Poles that this war ends with a just peace, which will also give us a guarantee of peace, so that we can truly develop peacefully, without fear of being attacked," Duda emphasized.

  • Duda recently said he believes that a possible peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia will require compromise, and that Kyiv will have to make concessions.
  • On April 26, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy met with US President Trump at the funeral of Pope Francis — their first meeting since their spat at the White House in late February. After a personal conversation with Zelenskyy, Trump issued a statement sharply criticizing Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.
