Ukrainian parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova shared information on Facebook.
"The shells used by the Russian forces against Ukrainian cities and villages are fired from ships and submarines in the Black Sea, polluting it," she said.
Denisova notes that military sonar is especially harmful for dolphins as it interferes with the echolocation that the mammals use to navigate, leading to their death.
She also explained that invading Russian forces are violating Article 35 of the Additional Protocol Geneva Convention from 12 August 1949, relating to Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol No. 1) of 8 June 1977, concerning proper treatment of the environment during hostilities.
