Dnipro polluted with tons of oil and fuel due to Russian activities in Kherson
Russian troops blow up watercraft and ships in the Dnipro River causing tons of fuel and oil to pollute Dnipro waters provoking an ecological disaster
Yaroslav Yanushevych, the head of Kherson regional military administration, reports on the ecological disaster on Telegram.
Russian troops are detonating watercraft near the piers and moorings of the Dnipro River and its tributaries, causing up to 10 tons of fuel and oil to end up in the waters. These substances are carried by the current to the protected zone of the Nyzhniodniprovskyi National Nature Park.
"These territories are protected by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. They are of international importance as waterfowl habitat. Therefore, this ecological disaster may have international consequences," Yanushevych says.
fficial emphasizes that Russian misconduct may lead to the river flora and fauna destruction, as well as poison the area for decades.
The head also stressed that "in order to eliminate the consequences, it is necessary to cover the oil stains as soon as possible and collect them. Ukraine cannot do this promptly, because our experts do not have access to the temporarily occupied territories."
