Dnipro delta with islands in Kherson region will be gray area - military expert Katkov

Defense Express Editor-in-Chief Oleh Katkov believes that separate units can operate on the territory of the islands in the Dnipro floodplains, and battles can take place, but this zone will remain gray

He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.

The military expert commented on the probability of amphibious operations on the islands in the Dnipro River delta in the Kherson region.

“Conducting an amphibious operation after the occupiers made another "goodwill gesture" looks quite strange, especially in winter in the lower reaches of the Dnipro River. In my opinion, amphibious landings by the Russian Federation in the Dnipro delta may be a response to the Ukrainian flag that was raised on one of the islands. Accordingly, such an event may cause closer control of these islands by the Russian Federation,” the Defense Express Editor-in-Chief explained.

Oleh Katkov does not see the possibility that the enemy will try to land an amphibious assault, especially in today's weather conditions.

“The entire delta of the Dnipro River with the islands is a so-called gray zone, in which separate units can operate, battles can take place, but the territory itself will not yet be liberated by Ukraine, nor occupied by the Russian Federation. It will be exactly gray and will become a meeting place of subversive intelligence groups. Perhaps there will be individual footholds to mark the presence. However, I cannot say that the lower reaches of the Dnipro River can now become a platform for amphibious operations in any direction,” Katkov said.
