Destructions in Sumy region triple due to Russian shelling
Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, says that after region’s de-occupation, the number of destructions has almost tripled as a result of Russian shelling
Dmytro Zhyvytskyi informed on the regional situation at a media briefing.
"There are about 4,700 destroyed or damaged houses and buildings in the region. At the moment, 1,389 objects have been fully restored. The restoration of social and critical infrastructure is a priority. We have 127 educational institutions in the region damaged or destroyed," Zhyvytskyi said.
The regional governor said that the number of destroyed and damaged objects is growing. After the complete de-occupation of the Sumy region, in April, there have been 1,800 such buildings, and now there are 4,700.
"There has been no Russian military presence here for 9 months, no fighting in the region, but due to shelling from the territory of Russia, the destruction has almost tripled," Zhyvytskyi added.
There has been only one day in the Sumy region without Russian shelling in the last several months.
"The number and density of attacks has increased. Last week we had the only day without shelling in the last few months. Otherwise, every day we have from several dozen to several hundred launches at the region. Fortunately, there have been no casualties recently," said the head.
Russian forces are shelling from the territory of Russia at the border settlements, at a distance of 10 kilometers.
"People already know how to act, how the launches and hits sound, how many seconds a shell flies. They know that they need to hide in shelters, basements, cellars. But, when about a month ago there was shelling at a larger distance from the border - 20 kilometers - unfortunately, there were victims. Houses are hit almost daily," Zhyvytskyi emphasized.
- On the afternoon of January 10, Russian troops once again shelled the border of Chernihiv and Sumy regions. No casualties were reported.
- During the day, on January 10, Russian troops struck the Sumy region 33 times.
