Denmark intends to provide Ukraine with first batch of Leopard 1 tanks in spring
Denmark expects the first batch of Leopard 1 tanks to be delivered to Ukraine, as part of cooperation between Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands, this spring
This was announced by Acting Defense Minister of Denmark Troels Lund Poulsen.
He made this statement during a speech following a visit to the German company Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG). The company is preparing Leopard 1 tanks for Ukraine.
Poulsen said he was glad to have visited FFG. He emphasized that he was there to make sure that the work on preparing tanks for Ukraine was progressing.
"I am proud that Denmark, in cooperation with other countries, supports the Ukrainian struggle for freedom and we hope that we will be able to deliver the first tanks to Ukraine during the spring," said Poulsen.
The Danish Ministry of Defense reminded that the country, together with Germany and the Netherlands, has launched an initiative to restore a large number of Leopard 1A5 tanks. As part of this cooperation, it is planned to deliver at least 100 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine.
"The first stage of the project is to deliver tanks for two battalions – equivalent to about 80 tanks – as soon as possible," the ministry said.
In addition, the project will offer Ukrainian military training in using tanks as well as spare parts and ammunition.
