Czech Republic ceases cooperation with Russian nuclear research institute due to Russia's war against Ukraine
The Czech Republic has officially terminated cooperation with the Russian Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in connection with the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine
This is reported by Czech Radio.
"The preservation of membership could be interpreted by Russia as a continuation of scientific cooperation in a strategic field and indirectly as ignoring the fact that the Russian Federation is committing unprecedented violations of international law and human rights," the statement says.
The termination process of long-standing cooperation with the Russian Joint Institute for Nuclear Research was launched in April 2022. In the middle of the summer Czech President Milos Zeman signed the relevant document.
Earlier, the Czech Ministry of Education decided to terminate the participation of its employees in the research activities of the organization.
According to the ministry, the benefits of cooperation between the Czech Republic and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna in recent years have been undeniable, but termination of membership in the organization will not be a significant restriction for Czech research.
- On September 4, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas called for keeping Russia in isolation until the complete de-occupation of all territories of Ukraine.
- On December 26, Czech President Milos Zeman called Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine the biggest problem of the outgoing year. "I fully support the Czech Republic's assistance to Ukraine, which is struggling, and I believe that sooner or later the pressure of free countries will force Russia to leave the territory of Ukraine," the politician said.
