China's special envoy denies offering to leave occupied Ukrainian territories to Russia
Li Hui, the Chinese government's special representative for Eurasian affairs, says that during his tour he did not suggest that European leaders leave the occupied Ukrainian territories to Russia
He said this at a briefing on June 2, Ukrinform reports.
Earlier, the WSJ wrote that China's special envoy Li Hui, during a trip to Europe, called for an immediate end to the war in Ukraine by giving Russia the seized territories.
“I don't know who the Wall Street Journal meant by the so-called informed Western officials, but such reports are completely untrue,” Li Hui said.
The diplomat assured that China maintains an objective and fair position on the war in Ukraine.
“We are acting correctly and appropriately, whether it is in communication with the Ukrainian side, or with the Russian side, or with the European side... We are openly expressing our position, and so are our interlocutors,” Li said.
According to him, the WSJ article was intended to undermine Ukrainian-Chinese relations.
“Foreign Minister Kuleba personally made a clarification, which shows that the false report of the Wall Street Journal is not only completely untrue, but also an attempt to provoke Chinese-Ukrainian relations and sow discord and distrust in them,” the Chinese special representative said.
