China’s role in war could pave way for Europe, Ukraine–U.S. deal, military expert says
Military expert Valentyn Badrak, Director of the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies, believes China’s involvement in the war on Russia's side could justify a Ukraine–U.S. arms deal
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"First of all, I would like to point out that it was after North Koreans appeared in the Kursk region during the war that Ukraine gained the ability to carry out long-range strikes. This presents a significant opportunity for both Ukraine and Europe, potentially offering a business deal to Trump. Specifically, Ukraine could request advanced air defense and missile defense systems from the United States, even if on a lease basis. This would be similar to the systems recently provided by America to Israel — modern, more powerful systems such as THAAD, which can intercept any advanced missile at a range of up to 1,000 kilometers. The United States currently has at least two spare THAAD batteries, like the two deployed in Israel, which could be sent to Ukraine, possibly funded by European nations," he said.
At the same time, Valentyn Badrak noted that the United States could also provide Ukraine with missiles for F-16 fighter jets, which have a range of 370 to 980 kilometers, of their own accord.
"Perhaps, at the expense of the Europeans or through their goodwill, Ukraine could be provided with AGM-158 air-to-ground missiles for the F-16, which have a range of 370 to 980 kilometers. Additionally, surface-to-surface missiles for HIMARS systems, like the latest Precision Strike Missiles, could be supplied. A new contract with Lockheed Martin, recently signed for 25 years, will produce 400 units of these missiles for the U.S. military, allowing Ukraine to begin receiving them. These missiles have a basic range of 500 kilometers. Such capabilities could significantly impact Putin and halt his advances," the military expert believes.
