Chinese Ambassador to the EU Fu Cong said this, according to The New York Times.
"I know that people are obsessed with the presidential call. The fact that President Xi is not talking to Zelenskyy does not mean that China is on Russia's side in the Ukrainian issue," he said.
At the same time, the diplomat assured that China will not provide Russia with weapons for use in Ukraine either now or in the future. Fu Cong also noted that Beijing does not recognize the occupied Crimea and Donbas as Russian.
Earlier, the Financial Times wrote that China does not rule out the possibility of a meeting between Xi Jinping and Zelensky.
