China is on China’s side
Therefore, Beijing will not be an active player in the current confrontation
Many people expect China to come up with a peace plan that will turn the tide of the war in one direction or another.
This will not happen.
I will tell you what will happen.
China will come up with a set of beautiful words in the right sentences, which will be devoid of any meaning to European (including Ukrainian) ears and eyes. Against war, for peace. For territorial integrity, against border violations. Against the use of nuclear weapons. Against the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Against pressure on Russia. Against war crimes. Against reparations. For the immediate implementation of the principle of mutual respect. For a dialog between stakeholders. For responsible leadership in international relations. For the recognition of the common destiny of all mankind and responsibility for the future. And so on.
“China will not be an active player in the current confrontation. With its "peace plan", which will turn out to be neither peaceful nor a plan, China will send all parties only one message: it is a major player, and everything must be done so that its interests are taken into account”
I have repeatedly described China's position on the Russian-Ukrainian war. China wants this war to never start, and since it is already waged, it wants it to be off the global agenda as if it had never started.
China is definitely not on Russia's side. China will also never be on Ukraine's side. China is on China’s side.
Therefore, China will not be an active player in the current confrontation. With its "peace plan," which will turn out to be neither peaceful nor a plan, China will send all parties only one message: it is a major player, and everything must be done so that its interests are taken into account.
How to take China's interests into account is a separate issue. We will not get China on our side, but we can get it on the side of postwar peace. Peace that will come after our victory.
