The spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry made the statement, Ukrinform reports.

A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry said that China’s and the United States’ nuclear capabilities are at entirely different levels, and that the strategic security environment and nuclear policies of the two countries are completely different. He added that expecting China to start trilateral nuclear disarmament talks with the U.S. and Russia is neither reasonable nor realistic.

He emphasized that Beijing adheres to a no-first-use nuclear policy and does not seek to engage in an arms race with other countries.

The spokesperson added that countries with the largest nuclear arsenals should diligently fulfill their special and primary responsibilities regarding nuclear disarmament.

  • Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that during talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, he had discussed missiles and nuclear weapons.
