Death toll from Russian strike on Rzhyshchiv, Kyiv region, rises to eight
On the night of March 22, the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region came under drone attack. A civilian facility was damaged and eight people were killed
As of 7:35 pm, Victoria Ruban, a spokeswoman for the State Emergency Service in the Kyiv region, told Espreso that the number of people killed in the night attack by 'kamikaze' drones in Rzhyshchiv, has increased to 8.
“Another person has been found and is being identified. The work is still ongoing and the rubble is being removed. If the rescuers do not have time to dismantle the rubble today, the work will continue tomorrow,” the rescuer said.
Since early morning, the emergency services have been working at the site. All the victims were provided with humanitarian aid.
It is reported that after the rubble is cleared, a commission will work to assess the damage caused by the Russian Federation.
Earlier, the spokeswoman for the State Emergency Service in the Kyiv region, informed the Ukrainian media that the body of the fourth victim had been found.
Victoria Ruban, a spokeswoman for the State Emergency Service in Kyiv region, told Suspilne that as of 2:30 p.m., seven people were killed in a nighttime kamikaze drone attack in Rzhyshchiv, Kyiv region.
"The number of victims has increased. Seven dead have been found," Ruban said.
Rescuers continue to clear the rubble.
Earlier, a spokeswoman for the State Emergency Service reported to Ukrainian media that the body of the fourth victim had been found.
"At 09:54, the rescuers found the body of a man. This is the fourth victim," Victoria Ruban told reporters.
The rescuer noted that experts continue to search for people who may be under the rubble.
Ruban clarified that there were no children among the dead, all the victims were adults.
As of 09:08, it was reported that police and emergency services had evacuated more than 200 people. One part of the dormitory building was almost completely destroyed. More than 20 people were taken to the hospital.
Earlier, units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police and relevant emergency services were working on the spot. As of 05:50, the fire has been extinguished.
According to the reports, enemy drones hit dormitories in Obukhiv district. The upper floors of the buildings were destroyed, and there was a fire.
As a result of the attack, 3 people died, including an ambulance driver who was on duty. Preliminarily, 7 people, including an 11-year-old child, were hospitalized. The search for three civilians who may be under the rubble is ongoing.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, on the night of March 22, Russia attacked the city of Rzhyshchiv, Kyiv region; the 4th and 5th floors of two five-story dormitories and the three-story educational building of a professional lyceum were partially destroyed. Then there was a 330 square meters fire extinguished at 06:50.
Four people may still be under the rubble. According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, about 8 Shahed drones were seen and shot down in the region.
"According to the final processed information, about 8 Russian Shahed UAVs were detected in the airspace around Kyiv. All the barrage ammunition was successfully destroyed by our air defense forces. But do not forget about the safety rules. I strongly recommend all Kyiv residents to comply with the requirements regarding the procedure in case of an air raid alarm. You should immediately go to the nearest shelters, even during the curfew," said the official.
Prior to that, it was reported that the Air Defense Forces were operating in the region.
