Canada imposes more than 70 new Russian sanctions for involvement in abduction of Ukrainian children, Russian army support

Canada has expanded the list of sanctions in response to Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine. The restrictions apply to 17 individuals and 18 organisations, relatives of sanctioned persons and members of the Kremlin elite

Canada joined other members of G7 to announce new sanctions on Russia, The Globe and Mail reports.

Ottawa announced more than 70 new restrictions focused on people who support Russia's illegal military actions and are complicit in human rights violations. 

The sanctions will apply to 17 individuals and 18 organisations associated with Russian companies that supply military technologies and developments to the Russian armed forces, relatives of the sanctioned individuals, and members of the Kremlin elite.

In addition, the restrictions will apply to 30 individuals and 8 organisations involved in human rights violations by Russia, including the abduction of Ukrainian children. 

At the summit in Hiroshima, Japan, the Group of Seven (G7) reaffirmed its commitment to provide financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support to Ukraine.
