British intelligence notes that in recent days, the fiercest fighting has taken place in 3 directions. In the Luhansk region, near Kreminna, the Ukrainian military may have made small gains and successfully repelled a Russian counterattack.
In addition, British intelligence confirmed reports that Russian troops had allegedly captured Soledar earlier in the week and suggested that they had since paused and were recapturing the town.
In the Zaporizhzhia region, both sides concentrated significant forces, engaging in artillery fire and skirmishes, but avoiding any large-scale offensive efforts.
"Overall, the conflict is in a state of deadlock. However, there is a realistic possibility of local Russian advances around Bakhmut," British intelligence concluded.
On January 19, US intelligence reported that fierce fighting was continuing near Soledar and Bakhmut, but that Russian troops did not have full control over either of these settlements.
