British intelligence explains why Russian troops are retreating from Kherson
The withdrawal of Russian troops from Kherson was caused by the inability to support forces on the western bank of the Dnipro river under the blows of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
This was reported by the military intelligence service of the British Ministry of Defense.
"On 09 November 2022, Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu ordered the withdrawal of Russian forces from the west bank of the Dnipro river in Kherson, southern Ukraine," the report says.
It is noted that the commander of Russian troops in Ukraine, General Sergey Surovikin, confirmed that Russian troops would retreat to defensive positions along the Dnipro river. According to him, the main reason for this is the solution to the supply problem.
"The loss of Kherson’s west bank will likely prevent Russia from achieving its strategic aspiration of a land bridge reaching Odesa," the British Defense Ministry said.
According to British intelligence, Russia's ability to maintain its forces on the west bank of the Dnipro river was threatened by Ukrainian strikes on Russian supply routes. Russian troops destroyed several bridges during the retreat and probably laid mines to slow and delay the Ukrainian Armed Forces' advance.
