Both east and west must be considered in Ukraine's post-war reconstruction - analyst Mariia Zolkina
To focus exclusively on the Western world in rebuilding Ukraine after the war is a mistake
Mariia Zolkina, an analyst at the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation, who worked as an expert in Qatar for more than two months for Al Jazeera, shared her views with Espreso.
"Now it looks like we are focused either on the expropriation of Russian assets or on the infusion of the USA, the G7, as well as the EU. But there are countries that are traditionally economic investors. Qatar is one of these countries.
Until February 24, Russia was one of Qatar's major investment destinations. They did not impose sanctions on Russia, but froze any infusions into the Russian economy. Qatar is a very rich country interested in international business. That is why I think that after the conclusion of the final agreement on the defeat of the Russian Federation, when Ukraine accepts international investments, investors will come to Ukraine," Zolkina said.
She emphasizes that in order to attract Qatari investments for the reconstruction of Ukraine, it is necessary to work on it now.
"When we think about some kind of business activity or decision-making in the Western world, it seems to us that the West is very slow, makes decisions cautiously. In the Middle East, time passes even more slowly. That is, in order to receive investments in 7 years, we have to work yesterday", Mariia Zolkina noted.
