Biden announces he will run for US presidency in 2024
Joe Biden has announced that he will run for a second term in the US presidential election in 2024
Biden made the announcement on Twitter.
"Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours. That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job," he wrote.
The current US president also released a video that begins with footage of the riots in the Capitol that broke out more than two years ago. Former US President Donald Trump is featured in the video. There are also reminders of Republican attempts to restrict access to abortion and suppress the LGBT community.
Joe Biden is now 80 years old, the oldest US president in history.
US Vice President Kamala Harris has since announced that she will run for reelection alongside Joe Biden in the 2024 elections.
According to her, as Americans, they believe that their "democracy will only be as strong as our willingness to fight for it."
"That’s why Joe Biden and I are running for reelection," Harris wrote.
