Belarusian army and Wagner PMC may be used for provocations – military expert Zgurets
The Armed Forces of Belarus and the Wagner Group do not pose a threat to Ukraine and NATO, but they might engage in provocations
Military expert Serhiy Zgurets stated this on Espreso.
Zgurets noted that the Wagner Group has increased in Belarus, but it doesn't pose a threat to Ukraine or NATO from a military standpoint. The Armed Forces of Belarus have 20,000 personnel, and there are about 10,000 Wagner fighters in the country.
“This power is lacking significant armored weapons and artillery, making it more likely to be used for hybrid provocative actions. For instance, there were reports of an attempt to break through the border with Poland. Belarus and the Wagner PMC will likely rely on hybrid approaches for their actions,” he said.
Belarusian helicopters in Polish airspace
Belarusian helicopters violated Polish airspace on August 1 in the Białowieża area, during alleged exercises. The Polish Ministry of Defense confirmed the incident and informed NATO. The Polish Foreign Ministry had to ask the temporary chargé d'affaires of Belarus for explanations.
However, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus rejected the Polish side's statements, claiming that Warsaw is using the allegations to justify increasing forces and resources near the Belarusian border.
