Belarus’ attack on Ukraine is very unlikely: Belarus’ economy won’t be able to handle it - Belarussian opposition activist

Former head of the Internal Affairs Department of Belarus, founder of the BYPOL opposition initiative Alexander Azarov believes that the attack of Belarusian troops on Ukraine is unlikely, because the Belarusians are not ready to fight, and if Belarus joins Russia in this war, it's economy will not hold up long.

The oppositioner expressed this opinion on the air of the Espreso TV channel.

"It is clear that there will be no attack from Belarus in the near future. Alexander Lukashenko said that it is necessary to create a southern operational command, which does not exist in Belarus. That is to take 20 thousand people out of the economic cycle, to feed and train them. An impossible task for the Belarussian economy in its current state," - Azarov noted.

The Belarusian oppositionist added that Belarusian troops near the border with Ukraine were not intended for attack operations.

"The creation of strike groups on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border wasn’t noticed. The Belarusian battalions that are currently on the border with Ukraine are special operation squadrons and reconnaissance groups. Belarusian troops are definitely not preparing for an attack on Ukraine," Azarov said.

The oppositionist also stressed that there were almost no Russian troops left in Belarus.

"Virtually all Russian troops have left Belarus. There may be some Iskanders left who are shelling the territory of Ukraine, the guards of these Iskanders and some other air units stationed in Gomel. These troops are not enough to carry out an attack," Alexander Azarov added.
