This was reported by the press service of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
"Eliminating loopholes and ensuring the effective application of EU sanctions are crucial to strengthening the impact of sanctions and undermining Russia's ability to continue its aggressive war," the statement said.
The three countries intend to ensure a unified customs inspection and information exchange. The relevant institutions of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia plan to apply the regional approach no later than 31 January 2024.
According to the document, the customs authorities of the states will agree to apply joint investigation methods after identifying unreasonable ways of moving goods. In particular, to reduce the risk of sanctions circumvention, they will require additional documents on the transit or end use of goods, additional declarations of producers and exporters.
At the same time, the parties agreed to urge other border countries to adopt a unified regional approach to EU sanctions.
"The Declaration underlines the importance of the Baltic States working together to ensure strict and uniform application of sanctions. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, while supporting the uniform application of EU sanctions at the European Union level, agree on the urgent need for a regional approach to the implementation of sanctions, given the unique geographical situation of the Baltic States," the declaration said.
