"Attack on everything the Germans stand for": Steinmeier accuses Putin of violating European order
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of turning Europe's security order into ashes
He stated this in his program speech at the Bellevue Palace, European Pravda quotes.
“On February 24, Putin didn't just break the rules and end the game. He threw the chessboard itself on the floor!” the President of Germany said.
Steinmeier also noted that Putin unleashed the biggest war in Europe since the Second World War. It turned the European security order into ashes.
“In his imperial obsession, the Russian president violated international law, seized land, and questioned borders. The Russian attack is an attack on all the lessons the world learned from the two world wars,” Steinmeier emphasized.
He noted that February 24 destroyed Gorbachev's dream of a "common European home". The President of Germany claims that Putin now commands an invading army that attacked Ukrainians who were simply defending their country.
“It is an attack on the law, on the principles of non-violence and the inviolability of borders. It is an attack on everything that we Germans also stand for. Those who shrug their shoulders and ask: "What does this war have to do with us Germans, does it have to do with the war?" have neither a sense of responsibility nor a sense of history. We Germans cannot prevail in Europe with this attitude - it's wrong!” Steinmeier said.
Because of this, according to him, Germany supports Ukraine and will support as much as necessary. This support is military, political, as well as financial.
“This includes the much-needed support to quickly recover from Russia's vile attacks on power, heating, hot water, all forms of vital infrastructure as winter approaches,” the German president said.
