Attack on Engels airfield compares to sinking of Moskva cruiser 

Oleh Katkov, editor-in-chief of Defense Express, told Espreso TV.

"Today's explosion - the one at the air base in Kursk - is extremely tangible for the Russian army. Not only did they base their fighter air regiment there, since the beginning of the invasion it has been a full-fledged air base for the entire front-line aviation," Katkov noted.

He emphasized that August satellite images show Su-30SM, attack Su-25 aircraft and K-52 helicopters on the airfield.

"In this case, destroying fuel and lubricants means the base will be used less. Regarding Engels attack, it is a blow to the heart of the Russian Air Force. This is the most important airfield of Russia’s strategic aviation. Striking it can be compared with the destruction caused by drone strikes in Sevastopol Bay,” said the expert.

According to Katkov, the attack is a historical moment.

"If we look at the new images, we will see at least one Tu-95 damaged; it is covered with foam now. This indicates that the warplane definitely needs major repairs. Given that they no longer produce them, this may even be an irreversible loss," he concluded.
