Almost half of Ukraine’s kindergartens have no shelters
As of July 29, 2023, about 65% of all educational institutions in Ukraine have shelters. They can accommodate about 56% of children and educators
Deputy Minister of Education and Science Andriy Vitrenko said this during the telethon.
"Currently, the state has allocated a separate subsidy for the construction and additional arrangement of shelters, which is UAH 1.5 billion. There was a resolution on its allocation, and this subvention has already gone to the regions, and the regions have to equip shelters," said Vitrenko.
It is noted that the best situation with shelters is in vocational education institutions - 95%. Only 55% of kindergartens have shelters, and the situation in schools is slightly better - 75% are equipped with bomb shelters.
"But I am confident that during this period, which remains until the beginning of September 1, the regional authorities will do everything possible to ensure that children can study full-time in educational institutions from September 1," the deputy minister emphasized.
- On Friday, July 28, at a regular meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution "On the beginning of the school year during martial law in Ukraine." The educational process is to begin on September 1, 2023, and will last until June 28, 2024.
