Airplane flying Norway to Turkey accidentally enters Ukrainian airspace
A Turkish airline carrying tourists from Oslo, Norway, to Antalya, Turkey, entered the closed airspace of Ukraine on July 25
The Norwegian public broadcaster NRK reported the information.
The Airbus A320-200 of the Turkish airline BBN Airlines took off from Gardermoen at 10:08 pm Norwegian time and was flying to the Turkish resort city of Antalya.
A storm approaching along the original flight route forced the crew to consider an alternative route. Thus, after about two hours in the air, the plane deviated from the route and flew on the border of the Zakarpattia and Chernivtsi regions of Ukraine. It then flew into Romanian airspace.
The entry into Ukrainian airspace was recorded by Flightradar24. BBN Airlines also confirmed to NRK that on July 25, their plane changed its route due to the approaching storm.
"We understand the concern that this incident causes and guarantee that we will actively take measures to prevent such incidents," an airline spokesperson told the broadcaster.
They did not provide any other details of the flight, only noted that an internal investigation had begun after the incident.
