Air defense units intercept and destroy 12 Russian aerial targets overnight
On Sunday night, September 17, 2023, Russian forces launched 16 aerial targets into Ukrainian airspace. Ukrainian air defense teams successfully neutralized 12 of these targets, including 6 Shahed attack drones and 6 cruise missiles

The Ukrainian Air Force reported, "On the night of September 17, 2023, our airspace was violated by enemy air-launched cruise missiles and attack UAVs, totaling 16 hostile aircraft."
Specifically, Russia launched 6 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs from the southeast and south, along with 10 air-launched missiles of the Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 type. These missiles were fired from 9 strategic aviation Tu-95MS aircraft based in the Engels district.
The primary target of the attack was the southern part of the Odesa region. Ukrainian air defense systems successfully engaged these threats along their flight path.
In summary, Ukrainian Air Force and air defense units, working in coordination, destroyed a total of 12 aerial targets, including 6 Shahed drones and 6 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles. Additionally, Russian missiles reportedly struck a civilian agricultural facility in the Odesa region.
The South Air Command demonstrated the successful interception of Russian cruise missiles during that night.
