Air balloons with angular reflectors spotted in Ukrainian sky
On February 14, Russian balloons with angular reflectors were spotted in Ukrainian airspace. Russia uses them to conduct reconnaissance and distract air defense
The spokesman for Ukraine’s Air Force Command, Yuriy Ihnat, said this in a comment to Ukrainian media.
"Probably, these are balloons with angular reflectors, which we have recently discussed (on February 12, such balloons were spotted over Dnipropetrovsk region - ed.). Ukrainian air defense radar observes these air targets moving at low speed in the air currents. Fighter aircraft are constantly on duty in the Ukrainian sky. The situation is under control," he said.
When asked whether such air objects could have caused the closure of the airspace over Moldova, Ihnat said he did not have such data. At the same time, he suggested the possibility of such balloons entering the territory of other states.
These balloons can be of different sizes, but sufficient to raise an angular reflector. The enemy uses such flying objects for reconnaissance or to confuse air defense systems, Ukraine’s Air Force spokesman explained.
