On August 25, German Finance Minister and Vice-Chancellor Lars Klingbeil has arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit, saying Vladimir Putin must understand that Germany’s support for Ukraine will not weaken

Reuters reported the information.

“Putin should have no illusions that Germany’s support for Ukraine could crumble,” Klingbeil stressed. “On the contrary: We remain Ukraine's second-largest supporter worldwide and the largest in Europe. Ukraine can continue to rely on Germany.”

The minister called on Russia to show genuine interest in the peace process and noted that, since U.S. President Donald Trump insists on a quick end to the war, Kyiv and its allies fear he might try to impose a deal on Russia’s terms.

Klingbeil stated that Ukraine must participate in negotiations, and lasting peace requires a ceasefire and reliable security guarantees.

“To this end, we are coordinating closely internationally,” he emphasized.

According to the German government, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Berlin has provided over €50 billion in aid to Ukraine.

  • Last week, the head of the Bundestag Defense Committee, Thomas Röwekamp, noted that Europeans and Ukrainians have had negative experiences dealing with Russia, making effective military deterrence necessary.
