U.S. President Donald Trump considered the option of supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles, which are capable of reaching significant distances, including Moscow and St. Petersburg

Journalist David Ignatius wrote this in a column for The Washington Post, citing his own informed sources in American political circles.

According to the report, Trump is contemplating a new approach to ending the war in Ukraine, based not on compromises, but on increasing pressure on Russia.

He threatened to impose "harsh tariffs" against Russia if it does not make peace within 50 days and promised a $10 billion military aid package to Ukraine, which includes Patriot missiles, air defense systems, artillery, as well as permission to use the 18 long-range ATACMS missiles already provided to Ukraine at their full range (up to 300 km). This would allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to strike Russian military infrastructure deep behind enemy lines.

At the same time, as the author of the article noted, Trump also considered the possibility of sending Tomahawk cruise missiles, similar to those launched against Iranian targets last month.

"If fired from Ukraine, these could hit Moscow and St. Petersburg, and they were included in discussion as late as Friday. But the Tomahawks are off the delivery list for now, I’m told. They could be deployed later if Trump wants even more leverage," Ignatius added.

  • During a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, U.S. President Donald Trump announced agreements on supplying weapons to Ukraine.

  • German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that his country will play a key role in the process of purchasing Patriot air defense systems from the U.S. for transfer to Ukraine.
