Supplying Ukraine with Taurus missiles may draw Germany into war, Scholz says
German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz opposes the supply of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, as he believes it could draw his country into a war with Russia
This is reported by RND.
"We should in no way be associated with the goals that this system achieves (the range of Taurus missiles - ed.). Therefore, it is not the next option on the agenda. This clarity is also necessary. I'm surprised that some people are not worried at all, they don't even think about whether what we are doing could in some way lead to participation in a war," Scholz said.
He noted that Taurus missiles are long-range weapons.
"And what the British and French do in terms of targeting is impossible to do in Germany. Everyone who has dealt with this system knows that," the chancellor added.
At the same time, Scholz said that he was very annoyed by the lack of balance between discussions about the Taurus system and what is really needed now.
"What Ukraine lacks is ammunition for all possible distances, but not essentially from Germany," he summarized.
- At the Munich Security Conference on February 17, Scholz said that the "right moment" is needed to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles.
