Polish politician accuses Zelenskyy of trying to drag his state into war, Ukraine responds
Polish Vice Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski has said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is trying to drag Poland into a war by asking it to shoot down Russian missiles
He made the statement on Radio Zet, saying, “Zelenskyy wants Poland to shoot down missiles over Ukraine, which means he wants Poland to go to war with Russia. I don’t agree with that.”
Gawkowski also said that Ukrainians are ungrateful.
“It seems to me that the last words from President Zelenskyy are not what you'd expect from a politician who owes a lot to Poland. We’ve sent equipment, taken in citizens, and Poland is a great friend to Ukraine, providing a transport hub. In situations like this, I believe one should say ‘thank you,’ not criticize,” he added.
Ukraine's response
Andrii Kovalenko, the head of the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, stated that Poland is out of touch with reality with such comments and refuses to acknowledge that the Russian dictator is preparing for a war against NATO.
"I don’t understand why Poland is so stubbornly disconnecting itself from reality and bringing NATO closer to a war with Russia, which Putin is clearly preparing for in the next 4-6 years. They don’t even hide it when they say NATO should return to the borders of the 90s,” he wrote.
"What can save from a future war is a strong stance now, because otherwise, there will be a real war. Politicians need to understand these risks and not bury their heads in the sand. And if they don’t, then those responsible for national security should," Kovalenko added.
- Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski believes that the issue of intercepting Russian missiles over Ukraine by member states may be raised at the next NATO ministerial meeting.
