Germany appeals to partners to find additional air defense systems for Ukraine

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius have appealed to NATO partners, the European Union, and third countries with an initiative to provide Ukraine with more assistance with air defense equipment as soon as possible.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized the need to once again take a serious look at whether there are additional systems available that can be quickly provided to Ukraine, as immediate delivery is needed now.

On April 4, in Brussels, Dmytro Kuleba said that Germany had initiated a search for affordable Patriot air defense systems for Kyiv. His German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, called for an urgent search for air defense systems for Ukraine in third countries, as the Patriot stocks in Germany are depleted.

On April 11, Ukraine's Foreign Minister said that the country had found more than 100 available Patriots in the world and was seeking to obtain at least 7 such systems as soon as possible to protect the cities most affected by Russian attacks.

Later, Kuleba said that Ukraine was negotiating to receive two Patriot batteries and one SAMP-T.

On April 13, media reported that Ukraine would receive another Patriot air defense system from Germany due to the increase in Russian missile attacks. In addition, an additional IRIS-T air defense system is being prepared.
