EU’s Borrell urges more air defense systems for Ukraine following Russian attack on Kharkiv shopping center
The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell condemned Russia's attack on the Epicenter hypermarket in Kharkiv and emphasized the need to provide Ukraine with additional air defense systems
He made the statement on X.
“I condemn in the strongest terms Russia's heinous attacks against Kharkiv city today, including a crowded mall, killing and wounding civilians,” the diplomat said.
Borrell assured that all perpetrators of these and other Russian war crimes will be brought to justice.
“These systematic Russian crimes against civilians and civilian infrastructure stress again the need for Europe to urgently ramp up support for air defence: it saves lives and protects Ukrainian towns,” the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy emphasized.

On Saturday, May 25, 2024, Russian troops struck civilian infrastructure in the city of Kharkiv throughout the day. The Epicenter construction hypermarket was hit particularly hard. By the morning of May 26, the death toll at the Epicenter had risen to 12. According to the prosecutor's office, 10 bodies have not yet been identified. Additionally, 43 people were injured.
