European Commission chief spokesperson Paula Pinho announced this on October 2 in Brussels, according to a correspondent of European Pravda.

The EU may invite G7 member states to join the project of “reparations loans” for Ukraine, based on frozen Russian assets.

“We are reaching out to our partners worldwide, including in the G7 context, regarding this matter,” said Pinho, responding to a question about whether the EU intends to involve other countries holding frozen Russian assets in its “reparations loans” project for Ukraine.

In turn, European Commission spokesperson Balázs Ujvári added that EU officials “are open to such discussions within the framework of G7 meetings.”

“Of course, what other participants (of the G7 – ed.) decide to do is up to them. But we will be open to such discussions, and certainly this issue will be raised at upcoming G7 meetings,” he emphasized.

  • European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen acknowledged that granting Ukraine a “reparations loan” based on frozen Russian assets is a sensitive issue that causes hesitation among many EU member states.
