AFU destroy Russian air defense system, 3 munition depots, 5 other important targets - General Staff

The Ukrainian army continues to destroy invading Russian forces fighting against Ukraine, as well as their equipment and facilities

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this on May 5.

“Russia doesn't abandon its plans to occupy our country and continues to wage a war of aggression. It strikes and attacks both military and civilian targets,” the General Staff wrote.

Ukrainian aviation launched 6 strikes on the invading Russian troops' military positions over the past day. Two enemy UAVs of the Shahed-136/131 type were also shot down.

Missile and artillery units struck 5 Russian manpower concentration areas. They destroyed 3 munitions and fuel depots, 1 air defense system, as well as 5 other important enemy targets.

Russian shelling of Ukrainian territory

“Russia continues to use terror tactics. Today, the enemy launched 2 missile strikes, 26 airstrikes, and about 20 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems. Civilians were injured, private houses and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged. The likelihood of missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high,” the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.

According to the report, occupying Russian troops are attacking in the Lyman, Avdiivka, and Marinka directions. The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled over 30 enemy assaults here over the past day. The fiercest battles continue for Bakhmut and Marinka, but Ukrainian soldiers are steadfastly holding the line.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected.

At the same time, the Russian Federation continued shelling the entire border line: one settlement in the Chernihiv region, 6 more in the Sumy region, as well as 6 villages in the Kharkiv region were attacked.

Russian attacks in other Ukrainian regions

In the Kupiansk direction, 10 settlements in the Kharkiv and Luhansk regions came under shelling.

In the Lyman direction, 5 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions were attacked by the invading Russian forces.

In the Bakhmut direction, fighting continues for the fortress city. About 20 settlements of the Donetsk region came under enemy fire.

In the Avdiivka, Marinka, Shakhtarsk, and Vuhledar directions, over 20 localities in the Donetsk direction were attacked.

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, 16 towns and villages were subjected to numerous Russian attacks.

Residents of the occupied Ukrainian territories are forced to take Russian passports

“The occupying troops continue to forcibly issue passports to the local population of the temporarily occupied Kherson region. For this purpose, the invading Russian forces use mobile passport control groups. Threatening deportation and confiscation of property, representatives of mobile groups accept documents and issue Russian passports at the place of residence of Ukrainian citizens,” the General Staff reported.
