About 700,000 Ukrainians work in EU, another 450,000 study at schools and universities – European Commissioner
Four million Ukrainian citizens who left after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022 were granted temporary protection status in the EU, of whom about 700,000 work and another 450,000 study at schools and universities
This was reported by the Ukrainian Ekonomichna Pravda media with reference to the statement of the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, in Kyiv.
"I informed the Minister (of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko - ed.) about the current placement of four million Ukrainians in the EU under the auspices of the Temporary Protection Directive," she said.
In particular, the European Commissioner added that among these Ukrainians, almost 700,000 are employed, and another 450,000 children are currently studying at schools and universities across the EU.
"Of course, this is a challenge, but we have overcome it. I repeat that Ukrainians seeking asylum in the EU are always welcome," she emphasised.
As it is known, in March 2022, the EU introduced the issuance of temporary protection permits for Ukrainian citizens who fled as a result of Russia's full-scale military invasion.
