German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made the statement commenting on the results of the EU summit, Ukrinform reports.
Answering journalists' questions whether he was sure that 2 battalions, that is, about 80 Leopard 2 tanks, would really be ready to be handed over to Ukraine by the end of March, Scholz said: "I hope that in the end it will be possible."
At the same time, the German chancellor admitted that "it will not be easy." He noted that Berlin is trying to promote this issue with its partners.
On January 25, Germany approved the supply of 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, and also allowed re-export by other countries.
On Thursday, February 9, Germany said it was demanding clear decisions from its allies on Leopard 2 for Ukraine by the end of the week.
