$7 billion needed to rebuild Ukraine's cultural infrastructure - Ministry of Culture
As a result of the Russian war against Ukraine, 1373 cultural institutions and more than 550 heritage sites have been damaged or destroyed to date
This was stated in an interview with Die Presse by Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Halyna Hryhorenko.
"According to our statistics, 1373 cultural institutions have been damaged or destroyed as of today: libraries, museums, theatres, philharmonic societies, and art schools. More than 550 cultural monuments and more than 200 religious buildings have been damaged or destroyed," the deputy minister said about the cultural sites of Ukraine destroyed during the Russian war.
According to her, an important part of Ukraine's work is "documenting the damage in accordance with international standards." In addition, buildings are being conserved to prevent destruction, with the expectation of their further restoration after the Victory.
"According to rough estimates by the World Bank, cultural reconstruction will cost $7 billion," said Hryhorenko.
